Children who may need your help

Welcome to the home page for the Hancock County CASA/GAL program!

The CASA/GAL program trains community volunteers who are appointed by a judge (and become a Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian Ad Litem) to advocate for the best interests of an abused, neglected or dependent child or a child whose parents have a pending domestic relations issue.

In the mid-1980's, Judge Allan H. Davis asked a couple of community individuals to get him more information concerning children who were coming before him in a court proceeding. From there, other interested individuals took CASA training from surrounding counties, were sworn in by Judge Davis as CASA Advocates and the organization was on its way. Local training began, non-profit status was obtained in December, 1994, and we have grown rapidly from then. We now have Advocates in Domestic Relations Court, program staff and community support.

Did you know that in 2005...

  • CASA Advocates have advocated for over 1,037 children in Hancock County since 1995 in both domestic and abuse/neglect cases?
  • The courts were in session 249 days during 2005 and there was a CASA Advocate in court for a child in Hancock County 229 of those days?
  • For just 2005 we have had Advocates appointed to 86 new cases involving 111 children – not to discount the carryover cases, bringing the total to 106 cases and 123 children?
  • The Judges and Magistrates value our recommendations?
  • We have children waiting for a CASA Advocate to give them a voice?
  • More Advocates are desperately needed?

Children need your Voice . . . won’t you help?

We are a Agency.
